Start your own action

Change starts locally. If you see a need in your community, you can turn it into action — and use hockey as a tool for positive social change.

Whether you are a club, school, NGO, local authority, or community group, the EuroHockey Foundation supports people who want to create safe, inclusive opportunities that improve lives.

1. Identify a Need in Your Community

  • Every action begins with understanding what’s missing.
  • Look at your local area and ask:
  • Who isn’t currently able to take part in sport?
  • Are girls and women facing barriers to participation?
  • Are urban or displaced communities lacking safe places to play?
  • Are people with intellectual disabilities excluded from regular activity?
  • Strong actions are rooted in real community demand, not assumptions.

2. Connect Hockey to Social Impact

  • Hockey is more than a sport — it’s a way to build confidence, connection, and opportunity.
  • Your action should use hockey to support at least one of our three focus areas:
  • Gender Focus – increasing access, safety, and leadership opportunities
  • Urban Integration – bringing communities together through inclusive play
  • Intellectual Disability – creating welcoming environments for everyone

3. Build Local Partnerships

  • The strongest actions are never delivered alone.
  • Work with:
  • Schools and education providers
  • Local authorities
  • Community organisations and NGOs
  • Other sports or shared‑use facilities
  • Partnerships help ensure your action is inclusive, sustainable, and community‑owned.

4. Apply for Support

  • Once you have a clear idea, explore our funding opportunities:
  • Scoring Goals Grant – for small, community‑led actions
  • Changing Lives Grant – for larger, multi‑sport infrastructure projects
  • All supported actions are co‑funded, time‑bound, and designed to deliver measurable social impact.

5. Activate and Create Impact

  • With the right support in place, it’s time to activate your action.
  • We help turn ideas into delivery by supporting:
  • Safe and inclusive spaces
  • Trained coaches and volunteers
  • Clear timelines and impact measures
  • Together, we focus on creating lasting change — not one‑off activities.
