Germany got the result they needed against Poland to advance to the semi-finals with something to spare as they put on a show to the home Mönchengladbach crowd.
Going into the tie, they needed a draw or better and that was pretty much assured as they scored four times in the first quarter en route to a 10-0 win.
Mats Grambusch volleyed in the first goal in the second minute; Thies Prinz also used his 3D skills to bat in the second from a looping ball into the circle.
Prinz also got the next one from a classic German move before Raphael Hartkopf’s upright reverse-stick shot made it 4-0.
His second made it 6-0 and a Gonzalo Peillat corner on the stroke of half-time added to the gap. They added four more in the second half with Hartkopf completing his hat trick with a brilliant diving touch the pick of the goals from Malte Hellwig’s cross.
Hellwig, Justus Weigand and a Peillat stroke in the last six minutes brought the total to ten.
The result confirms the semi-final line-up which will take place on Thursday with the Netherlands meeting France and Germany playing Spain in the semi-finals while Austria meet Poland and Belgium play England for the fifth to eighth place rankings in Pool C.
