EuroHockey launches Organisational Health service to strengthen national associations

EuroHockey has unveiled its Organisational Health strategic service — a comprehensive five-step framework designed to help national hockey associations across Europe assess, strengthen, and sustain their organisational performance.

The tool focuses on five interconnected stages: Readiness, Mapping, Alignment, Strategy, and Operations. Together, they offer a structured pathway for improving governance, infrastructure, financial management, and stakeholder engagement.

“Organisational Health gives national associations the clarity, data, and structure they need to plan for growth with confidence,” said Phil Taylor of Blueprint Sport, EuroHockey’s delivery partner for the initiative.

“Working with senior teams, staff and stakeholders, we apply the five stages bespoke to the context and capacity of each nation – every process is tailored to discuss the unique challenges and opportunities in each country, to produce a fit for purpose plan to develop and deliver hockey.”

A Collaborative, Data-Driven Process

The process begins with a self-assessment, giving associations a clear baseline of their organisational health.

This is followed by a deep-dive mapping phase, where further stakeholder engagement is planned to understand current context and operations in further detail, from competitions and marketing to finance and infrastructure.

“By taking the time to look closely at how an organisation is functioning today, you create the best possible foundation for building its future,” explained Peter Elders, EuroHockey’s Development Committee Chair. “It’s about aligning national priorities with both local realities and international ambitions.”

Once all data and aspirations are gathered, EuroHockey works with each association to ensure alignment with broader strategic goals and relevant national and Olympic committee objectives.

From there, a tailored strategy is developed, complete with measurable goals, timelines, and a public-facing launch. The final operations phase ensures sustained delivery through regular progress tracking, strong storytelling, and continuous improvement.

Building Resilience and Sustainable Growth

With a detailed timeline and hands-on support throughout the first 12 months, the Organisational Health tool is designed to deliver impact that lasts.

It progresses the excellent work already witnessed via the Solidarity through Great Governance pilot scheme which saw EuroHockey work with federations in Ukraine, Bulgaria, Türkiye, Croatia, Finland and Portugal to produce bespoke long-term strategy documents.

By embedding best-practice governance, transparent decision-making, and stakeholder collaboration into everyday operations, associations are better equipped to deliver successful events, grow participation, and inspire the next generation of players.

“This is about creating resilient organisations that can adapt, grow, and thrive long after the initial plan is delivered,” added Taylor. “Organisational Health isn’t just a project — it’s a long-term investment in the future of European hockey.”
