Women’s EuroHockey Indoor Club Trophy (Lambersart, France)
AHTC Wien and Watsonians continued their superb run to make it three wins from three in Lambersart setting up a big showdown this evening in Pool D promotion group.
AHTC Wien started the day with their third comprehensive win, a 5-0 victory over Šiauliai Ginstrektė-Akademija which ensured they topped Pool B.
Morning session round-up
Tessa von Velsen was again on scoring form, netting either side of a Johanna Czech in the first half for a three-goal lead. Philippa Proksch and Maria-Luisa Esser added the etxras in the second half.
HC Olten and SG Amsicora, meanwhile, shared a 3-3 draw after Maya Flury’s last second penalty corner made it level.
Before that, the Italians had led three times with Maryna Khilko making it 1-0 and 2-1 and Camilla Scarpa put them 3-2 up but each time Flury found a response.
The outstanding business in Pool A was completed when Watsonians raced away in the last 11 minutes to beat Railway Union 7-3.
It was highly competitive up to that point at 3-3 with Orla Fox, Sarah Patton and Maedbh Le Roux combining to keep the Irish side in the mix for the win they needed.
But a run of four goals in four minutes from Emily Dark, Anna Richardson and two from Tabitha Peck transformed the result the Scots’ way.
Watsonians go through to the promotion pool as a result with five points under their belt. Railway go into Pool C, also carrying forward five points.
That result had meant hosts Iris Hockey Lambersart advanced to the top four and they duly finished the group stages with a 7-2 flourish against Gaziantep Doruk.
It was tight for the first 15 minutes before the French side hit top gear with Julie Martinot, Camille Druart and Eve Verzura both scoring twice.
They bring one point with them into the top four group, putting them currently in third place above Ginstrektė.
