Rotweiss Wettingen and Clydesdale Western have put themselves in pole positions in their respective Women’s EuroHockey Club Trophy II groups with their second successive wins in Alanya.
For Rotweiss, the experienced Elena Trösch got the key goal in the third quarter from their sixth penalty corner against WAC for a 1-0 win.
It lifts the Swiss side to ten points and needing just a draw against Šiauliai Ginstrektė-Akademija on Saturday afternoon to confirm their place in the final.
Alanya Stars, meanwhile, got their campaign on track with a 3-1 win over Šiauliai to rise to six points, level with WAC. Emine Bahçivan and Samanta Jakoleva traded early goals but later strikes from Fatma Demir and Fatma Nişanci swung the result the Turkish side’s way.
In Pool B, Clydesdale Western are in a dominant position as they swept by the challenge of HC Olten 9-1 with Lunjika Nyirenda bringing her tournament goalscoring total up to five in two games.
The win puts the Scots three points clear at the top of the group after Cardiff & Met and Gaziantep Polisgücü shared a 2-2 draw. The Welsh side were flying high at 2-0 but Fatma Songül Gültekin and a 51st minute Anna Ryabova goal saw the Turks level the game.
It means Cardiff must beat Clydesdale on Saturday to deny the Scots a place in the final. Gaziantep need a win and a Cardiff loss if they are to move into the bronze match.
