Clydesdale Western secure Alanya gold and spot in next season’s EHL

EuroHockey Club Trophy II Women (Alanya, Türkiye)

Clydesdale Western completed the perfect weekend in Alanya as they swept to a 3-0 final win over Rotweiss Wettingen, adding gold to the promotion they earned for Scotland already.

Ava Graham got them off to a dream start when she scored in the seventh minute and Emma McGregor put more daylight between the teams in Q2. They weren’t able to make more use of 10 penalty corners but the victory was put to bed in the final quarter, fittingly by captain Millie Steiger who made it three.

After topping the EuroHockey II Trophy Competition Alanya, Steiger, said “We are delighted to secure promotion and finish the competition as winners. The team played some great hockey and were particularly happy to go unbeaten and score 29 goals!”

Coming after a strong domestic campaign after winning both the Scottish Cup and Scottish Grand Finals, where the team secured a spot in the EHL for next Easter – winning in Alanya was the icing on top of a great season.

Player Coach, Fiona Semple added: “The team have laid some great foundations for next season and we’re looking forward to competing with the best in Europe in the EHL next year”.

WAC won the third place playoff in style as they defeated Gaziantep Polisgücü 7-0. It was tight in the first half with only Isabella Klausbruckner’s 18th minute goal between the teams.

But the Austrians cut loose in the second while the Turks ran out of steam; Klausbruckner ended up with four goals to her name with others coming in from Lieselotte Bensen, Pippa Bahr and Marie Reichstein.

Alanya Stars finished the tournament strong in fifth place as they came back twice to beat Cardiff & Met 3-2. Alana Hamilton-Tombs gave the Welsh side a first minute lead and also made it 2-1 in Q2 but Yeter Okumuş and Kübra Güzelal both struck before half-time to create the victory.

Šiauliai Ginestrektė-Akademija took seventh place as two early goals from Dovilė Kuklienė put them on course for a 3-1 win over HC Olten who ended in eighth place.
