Minutes of the Executive Board Meeting

14th and 15th December 2012
The President welcomed the board to the fifth Executive Board meeting of 2012.
She welcomed Gerry Ralph and Norman Hughes and looked forward to fruitful discussions about development in Europe.
She reported that Director General, Angus Kirkland started his position in EHF with a busy November and she noted his wonderful enthusiasm about everything that is happening in hockey in Europe. He has remarked that the “business model” of EHF is excellent and is enjoying spending time at our office in Brussels.

Presidents Welcome:
The President welcomed the Executive Board to Kuala Lumpur.
The meeting began with a minute’s silence to mark the passing of Julia Gill and Guido Braca.
Julia Gill was a Technical Official for EHF for many years, and the EHF are grateful for her service.
The President reported that Sue Bodycomb (EHF Committee member) attended the funeral and Julia’s husband very happy to see her EHF friend pay her respects on our behalf.
Many Board members only heard of Guido Braca’s passing on their arrival in Kuala Lumpur, and naturally the news came as a shock to all his friends in EHF and the FIH, particularly as we were fortunate enough to spend time with him recently at the Olympic Games in London.

President’s Welcome:
The President opened the meeting by requesting a minute’s silence to mark the passing of Robert Watson, EHF Hon. General Secretary 1978 – 1989 and Vice President 1989 – 1993.
She noted how important it is for the EHF family to remember Robert Watson as he was in his full health – a witty and intelligent person who contributed an enormous amount to the EHF in his various roles.
She then welcomed the Executive Board and the incoming Director General of the EHF to Lausanne for the third meeting of 2012.
She also welcomed Kelly Fairweather, CEO of the FIH to meeting.

President’s Welcome:
The President welcomed the Board to its 2nd meeting of 2012, and offered a special welcome to Guido Braca, Wiert Doyer and Dariusz Kurc. She thanked the new Competitions Manager for his hard work over the first few months with the EHF and noted that the Board were very happy to have him amongst us and are looking forward to working together into the future.

The President welcomed the Executive Board to the meeting in Bratislava, and thanked Ludmila Pastorova for the kind invitation to Slovakia.
Marijke informed the Board that the new Competitions Manager, Dariusz Kurc had officially started work with EHF in Brussels on 5th March after returning from the Olympic Qualifying tournament in New Delhi as the manager of the Polish Team.
She congratulated Poland on coming 4th in the tournament and also to France for finishing 2nd.

The President welcomed the Executive Board.
She wished to congratulate Jan Vymazal who was appointed as a University Professor and presented him with a gift.
She also congratulated Anne Ellis on being awarded BBC Wales’ Sports Personality Lifetime Achievement award. She mentioned, that we as EHF are very proud to have such an Honourable Member of Honor within EHF!
She went on to congratulate Jean Christoph Capelle on the success of the Belgium men’s team at the recent FIH Champions Challenge, and Jorge Alcover on Spain’s success at the FIH Champion’s Trophy in Auckland.
