Jorge Alcover, Chairman Competitions Co-ordination Committee Jorge Alcover, Chairman Competitions Co-ordination Committee

Welcome message from the Chair, Jorge Alcover

The Competitions Committee co-ordinates the following men’s and women’s Indoor and Outdoor Tournaments:

Each year the committee  is involved in approximately 30-35 tournaments.

Having allocated hosts for each tournament, match schedules are agreed with the hosts.

EuroHockey Club Championships in several divisions (played every year)

Euro Hockey League, EHF’s flagship men’s club tournament, is overseen by a separate EHL Board and EHL working group, who liaise closely with this Committee.

EuroHockey Championships (played every odd year)

EuroHockey Junior Championships (played every even year)

EuroHockey Youth Championships (under 18s and under 16s played in alternate years)

All EuroHockey Nations Championships are held under the control of FIH as well as EHF Regulations.

The other major area of the committee’s work is to develop, update and publish Tournament Regulations for each competition for which the Regulations working group prepares proposals.

Queries in relation to Competitions should be sent to our Competitions Manager, Dariusz Kurc: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Outdoor Committte, a welcome from the Chair, Wiert Doyer

The Outdoor Committee meets twice a year, generally in February and September.

As the EHF is responsible for outdoor Tournaments, Nations (Senior, Junior, U18 and U16) in addition to many Club Tournaments, we normally meet in February to review the past Nations Season and in September to review the past Club Season.

At our last meeting we reviewed the Championships from 2011, Senior and Under 18. It is always with a view to the future that we look at the Reports. It is vital to learn lessons and to plan for the next events.

The EHF is constantly in contact with the Member Federations and looking at what they want in terms of Competitions for their players. In 2012 we have reviewed and redesigned the Under 16 Championships, playing over 4 days will vastly reduce the costs for Organisers and participants and we hope will encourage more Members to participate in what is usually the first taste of official competition for our young players. We will review again after July to ensure that the players, coaches and all those involved were satisfied with the outcome of the shortened Tournament.

In 2013 we will host the EuroHockey Championships at all levels from I - IV so via the EHF Competitions Manager we keep control of these Tournaments to ensure quality events for our players.

Whilst the EHL is controlled and managed under a separate company, we as a Committee keep an overview of the Tournament and are involved in any decisions that affect the playing regulations for the players. We also note and keep an eye on any discipline issues that arise.

With such a diverse membership in our Committee we are very grateful to our members who keep the Committee informed of what is going on at EuroHockey Tournaments throughout the continent of Europe at all levels.

Indoor Committee, a welcome from the Chair, Jan Vymazal

The Indoor Committee meets once a year, this year we meet on 12th May 2012 in the EHF Office in Brussels.

It is vital at our meetings that we start with a review of the past year's Tournaments. We set very high standards for our EuroHockey Indoor Tournaments, so it is important that we look at the good and the bad from last year. Excellence is formed by good habits, so reviewing and using this knowledge to prepare for the next season will see us building on the successes of the last season.

In 2012 the DHB hosted the EuroHockey Indoor Championships in Leipzig, with a superb venue and huge crowds, we were delighted that our flagship Indoor Tournament was such a success and thank the DHB and their team.

And then we look ahead to 2013 and 2014:

A huge thank you to all the Clubs and Nations who have offered to host. Without hosts there simply would be no EuroHockey Tournaments.

We are mindful of the Indoor Rules and Regulations and keeping them current. The Board has set up a Working Group on Regulations, so we will recommend any changes to this group. As Europe is the leader in Indoor Hockey worldwide, we always report to the FIH on FIH Rules, it is up to the FIH to set the Rules of Indoor Hockey, but we always as a Committee advise them.

The EHF has spent considerable time and energy setting Strategic Objectives and Targets, so we as a Committee will keep them in mind during all our discussions.

The Indoor hosts for 2013 and 2014 are now on the site under Competitions and Match Schedules are being posted as and when they are agreed between the hosts and our Comeptitions Manager.
