HOCKEY IN HUNGARY
The HHF is one of the oldest federations in the world. Its fundation coincides with the foundation of the International Hockey Federation (FIH) in 1924, and there for celebrated our federation its 80th anniversary last year.
Moreover, the Hungarian federation also attended the birth of the European Hockey Federation (EHF) in 1969. The HHF is organises the Hungarian hockey life under several circumstances with various results.
In the beginnings, the sport was developing well, there were a lot of member associations founded and the first Hungarian Hockey Championship was announced in 1928. Except two years (in 1945 and in 1956) Hungarian Champion was initiated every year.
Our first national success was in 1929 (6:0) against Poland. in 1929 (6:0).Our best result was the participation on the Berliner Olympic Games in 1936. Although our national team was touring well overseas, after the Second World War the Hungarian hockey could not be its former self. In 1957 the development of the sport began with the help of some hockey friends. In 1965 as recognition to the HHF, FIH appointed Dr. Gyula Konorót, (HHF president of that
time) to be a member of the Technical Committee.
Because of the opportunities, Hungarian hockey could not achieve the old results. The deficiency of the support and infrastructure increased the difference from the other countries and although after the Change of the regime the attitude to the hockey would better, the general economic situation of the country did not make possible to develop the sport and to join forces with the international top.
Titleholder these days are the Rosco Hockey Club and the Építők Sport Club, which are also internationally known. Between 1924 and 2005 the Építők Sport Club has won the most of the Hungarian Championships.
From 31.06.2004 new Presidency came to the fore and from this time new members are working for the HHF to develop the Hungarian hockey and make the best of its opportunities.
